Introduction

  1. Introduced in 2018, the HP EliteBook 840 is a high-quality business laptop with a physical design that enables a range of connectivity and productivity options

1 - Ports and slots

1.1 Left side

  1. On the laptop's left side, you'll find a cable-lock slot (1), a USB 3.0 Type-A port (2) and a SmartCard memory card slot (3):

1.2 Right side

  1. On the right are a SIM card slot (1, only on cellular models), an audio jack (2), another USB 3.0 port (3), HDMI (4) and Ethernet (5) ports, a docking-station connector (6), a Thunderbolt 3 port (7), and the AC power adapter connector (8):
NOTE: You will only need to use the Ethernet port (5) in situations where wi-fi (wireless) connectivity is not available
If you have been provided with a docking station for your laptop, you can plug it into the docking station port (6) to quickly connect an external monitor and other peripherals
You can use the Thunderbolt 3 port (7) to connect external storage drives or video devices

2.1 Webcam

  1. The laptop also has a webcam with a sliding cover that provides hardware-based privacy when you want to make sure no one can see you through the camera:

2.2 Touchpad, pointing stick

  1. In addition to a standard touchpad and the backlit keyboard, a mid-keyboard pointing stick (1) with two buttons (2) that mimic mouse features are also included:

  1. The keyboard's Function keys give one-tap access to a host of settings:
    1. F1 – Display switching
    2. F2 – Blank or privacy
    3. F3 – Brightness down
    4. F4 – Brightness up
    5. F5 – Audio mute
    6. F6 – Volume down
    7. F7 – Volume up
    8. F8 – Microphone mute
    9. F9 – Backlight toggle (for backlit keyboard) or blank
    10. F10 – Numlock
    11. F11 – Wireless
    12. F12 – Calendar
